FAQ
- What is a 'weighted API unit'?
- Different endpoints have different infrastructure cost. A cached country-code lookup costs 0.1 units; an HSN search costs 1; sanctions screening costs 5; AI Trade Impact costs 20+. You pay for what an endpoint actually costs us to serve.
- Why is the Developer plan only 2,500 units?
- The Developer plan is for experimentation and SDK adoption — not bulk extraction. 2,500 weighted units is enough for prototyping but prevents mirroring proprietary datasets like HSN catalogs and regulation maps.
- What happens if I exceed my plan quota?
- You purchase pre-paid add-on packs from the Billing → Add-ons tab. Add-ons are pro-rated to the current cycle and auto-renew next cycle only if your usage exceeded plan + active add-ons. No surprise overages — requests are rate-limited (429) once add-ons are exhausted.
- How do rate limits work?
- Per API key, per endpoint category. A Starter customer can burst 20 lightweight req/s and 10 standard req/s simultaneously without contending for the same bucket. 429 responses include Retry-After.
- What's the difference between Basic / Advanced / Deep AI Trade Impact?
- Basic is single-country, deterministic retrieval (5 credits). Advanced adds multi-source reasoning and watchlist overlays (10 credits). Deep adds multi-country geopolitical reasoning, predictive disruption, and executive synthesis (50 credits). Each tier is plan-gated.
- Is billing prepaid?
- Yes — all paid plans are prepaid via Cashfree. See the refund policy for the narrow billing-error exception.
